Are Bangs in for 2018?

They’re always saying a new year a new you so when it comes to the new year I like to do things a little differently, and there is no easier way to do things differently than by changing up your look. And let’s be honest – it’s a whole lot of fun to try something dramatic and daring. For instance, last year, after much internal debate, I decided to go ahead and get a septum piercing. Now, I know that they’ve been popular for a while now but I decided to finally take the dive – mum be damned.

This year, I thought it might be cool to get bangs again. I think the last time that I actually had bangs was probably about six years ago, so it’s about time to have a bit of a revisit. But before I went and got the chop I thought it’d be a good idea to do a bit of research on the subject. Like, I’m not all that interested in getting a hair style that’s so clearly out of style that people cringe at me when they pass me on the street.

So I checked out what type of bangs were in fashion as we kicked off the new year. Hey, I was a little surprised at what I found out too!

The number one trend for the start of the year was one that I’m debating on trying to pull off – baby bangs. “What the.. are baby bangs?”. Is what I thought when I heard of this new wave bangs movement. To put it simply, baby bangs are super short bangs, that is bangs that have been cut really high up on your forehead. You might have noticed Emma Watson and Emma Roberts sporting new baby bangs recently, with the former’s a soft, sort of sweeping short side fringe, and the latter’s a very blunt, very fashionista style cut. If you’re looking for the most, It bangs trend right now then baby bangs is it. However, if you’re not sure that you can rock the look, then you might like to do what Emma Watson did and used a clip in hairpiece to try it out.

Next up on the hot list is what’s known as curtain bangs. These are super long, choppy bangs that fall past your eyebrows. They’re soft and full and are sort of what I’d like to term indie chic. (snappywap.com) These bangs are pretty easy for everyone to wear too, and because they are so long, many people can get away with just air drying them (along with the rest of your hair) and walking out the door. I love low maintenance hair, so this is a tick in the box for these type of bangs for sure. You can either go with a side part or wear them down the middle, so they’re pretty versatile too.

Blunt, choppy bangs are also making a comeback, and yes we can see them displayed front and centre on our girl Chrissy Teigen’s Instagram – not only does she have a new baby but she’s also got a new do. These type of bangs are worn long, and get longer at the sides, framing the face, and can be a good choice for people who are scared of going for the chop.

So, the answer to the question if bangs are in in 2018 is definitely yes… although choosing the style of bangs that you want to get is most definitely the hard decision to make. Me? I’ve decided to go for curtain bangs and think about the baby bangs for now – I can always go shorter after all.
