Your Summer Glow-Up Starts with Skincare

There’s something magical about summer, longer days, sun-kissed skin, and a chance to slow down and enjoy the warmth. But as the temperatures rise, so do the demands on your skin. From extra sun exposure to dehydrating heat and sweat-induced breakouts, summer can be a tricky season for keeping your complexion in check.

The good news? With just a few thoughtful changes to your routine, you can keep your skin clear, hydrated, and glowing all season long. As a skincare professional, I’m sharing a few tried-and-true summer tips to help your skin feel as good as it looks!

1. Hydration Is Your Summer Skin’s Best Friend

Just because it’s hot outside doesn’t mean your skin is automatically hydrated. Sun, sweat, and air conditioning can all contribute to dehydration, leaving your skin dull, tight, or more prone to oiliness and breakouts.

The fix? Hydrate from the inside and out.

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day — it helps regulate oil production and supports a healthy skin barrier.
  • Use a lightweight, water-based moisturizer that contains ingredients like hyaluronic acid or glycerin to keep your skin plump without feeling greasy.
  • Mist your face mid-day if you’re outside a lot — it’s a little luxury that can go a long way.

Expert Tip: Another way you can boost your hydration is through fruit! Fruits like watermelon, berries not only taste great (and are a refreshing summer snack), but can help keep your hydration levels up!

2. SPF: Non-Negotiable (Even on Cloudy Days)

If there’s one skincare tip to never skip, it’s SPF. Sun damage doesn’t just show up as sunburns; it contributes to premature aging, pigmentation, uneven skin tone, and long-term skin health issues.

For daily protection:

  • Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher.
  • Reapply every two hours when you’re outdoors, especially if you’re swimming or sweating.
  • Don’t forget often-missed spots like your lips, ears, and the back of your neck.

One of our current favorites is tinted SPF, for a streak-free look that protects and glows!

Sun exposure is the number one cause of premature aging, from fine lines to uneven tone. Wearing sunscreen every single day, rain or shine, is the simplest way to protect your skin’s youth, health, and glow long-term,” says Diane Howard, RN, of Esthetic Finesse, a trusted provider of lip fillers Phoenix.

3. Your Nighttime Routine Matters More Than You Think

Think of your nighttime skincare as your skin’s reset button. After a long day of sun, sweat, and sunscreen, proper cleansing and nourishing can make all the difference.

  • Always double cleanse if you’re wearing SPF or makeup, start with a cleansing oil or balm, then follow with a gentle gel or cream cleanser.
  • Use exfoliating acids (like AHA or BHA) 2–3 times a week to keep pores clear and texture smooth.
  • Follow with a hydrating serum and a nourishing night cream to lock in moisture while your skin repairs overnight.

As facial balancing expert Diane Howard, RN, of Esthetic Finesse, puts it: “The secret to beautiful skin is consistency. If you stick to a routine, no matter how simple, and make sure your skin is clean, hydrated, and protected, you’ll see glowing, happy skin that’s perfect for any look!”

Skincare Is Self-Care

Your skin is with you through every season, and summer is the perfect time to treat it with a little extra TLC. Staying hydrated, protecting your skin from the sun, and giving it space to breathe and repair each night will help you feel more confident in your glow — not just now, but year-round.

No matter your skin type or routine, the most important step is showing up for your skin every day with intention, consistency, and, of course, a little bit of love.
